About the Author & Publisher
Iain Williamson has extensive experience in finance. He was a financial analyst for five years in the brokerage business; first in Montreal, then in Toronto. During that time, he was responsible for evaluating and reporting on Canadian investment opportunities. He prepared investment proposals and made hundreds of presentations to institutional investors in Canada, the US and Europe.
Mr. Williamson also knows small business. For 10 years, he was president of an importing, manufacturing and distributing company and for two years he was president of a high technology firm. For the past 31 years he has operated Productive Publications, a softcover book publisher with 189 small business, computer and self-help titles by 69 authors, including himself. In addition, he has published 46 titles in Productive Publication's Learn2Succeed.com series.
Iain has become an authority on small business financing and has firsthand experience in preparing business plans and in successfully obtaining government grants, venture capital and bank financing. He is author and publisher of nineteen books on various aspects of the subject, including federal and provincial government programs. Comprising 5,200 pages, these are the most complete reference books of their kind. These are updated annually and with sales of over 21,600 they have become best-sellers.
He has also authored: THE NET EFFECT: Will the Internet be a Panacea or Curse for Business and Society in the Next Ten Years? which takes a critical look at the information age. He has written: Successful Direct Mail Marketing in Canada: A Step-by-Step Guide to Selling Your Products or Services Through The Mail. He has also written: Start Your Own Business - Be Your Own Boss: Your Road Map to Independence together with Marketing for Beginners: How to Get Your Products into the Hands of Consumers. His book: Software for Small Business: Windows & Vista Programs to Help You Improve Business Efficiency and Productivity, is now in its sixth, revised and up-dated edition. Other books (written under a pen name) deal with e-commerce as well as Web marketing for small business.
Mr. Williamson established Entrepreneurial Business Consultants of Canada to cater to the consulting work that has arisen as a result of these publications and has wide experience in preparing business plans, mergers, acquisitions and financing.
He is an experienced public speaker. His engagements have included the presentation of a paper entitled: An Overview of Canadian Incubators and Innovation Centres at the Montreal International Symposium on Business Incubators. He has conducted small business seminars for the Newcomers Enterprise Centre in Toronto and for the Greater Hamilton Business Expo. Clients for small business financing seminars include The Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre/Waterloo, the national accounting firm of Touche Ross (now Deloitte Canada) at their annual meeting in Calgary and the St. John's Board of Trade in Newfoundland. More recently, he has conduced financing seminars for BC Wood in Surrey and Kelowna, BC.
Iain has been the guest speaker on a CBC Radio phone-in show on starting a business in a recession. He has appeared as a guest on TV Ontario's Moneysworth, on CBC Television's Venture and BC-TV. His views have been featured in many articles in The Toronto Star, The Financial Times (of Canada), The Globe and Mail, The Toronto SUN, The St. John's Evening Telegram, The Hamilton Spectator and many other newspapers.
He holds degrees from the University of St. Andrew's in Scotland and from Oxford University, England.
His extensive, firsthand knowledge of the entrepreneurial process, together with his communication skills, places him in an excellent position to write about business financing and act as a consultant on a wide variety of small business topics.
